Massachusetts Vision Zero Coalition

In 2023 so far, over 2,000 lives have been lost to, or seriously injured by, a traffic crash in Massachusetts — not including the countless friends, family, and loved ones impacted as well. On November 19th, the Massachusetts Vision Zero Coalition will recognized each person impacted during this year’s World Day of Remembrance for victims of traffic crashes. The Vision Zero Coalition is working with advocates and those impacted by road traffic crashes to host events and honor crash victims across Massachusetts.

We invite you to join us in recognizing World Day of Remembrance by taking individual action or joining/planning events in your community. Check out our World Day of Remembrance 2023 Toolkit for tips on how to organize your own action.

World Day of Remembrance Events in Massachusetts:

• The MA Vision Zero Coalition will coordinate a memorial display on the steps of the Massachusetts State House on Friday, November 17th.
• In Quincy, MassBike and Quincycles are co-hosting a ghost bike installation on Saturday, November 18th in honor of Li Dian Wu. For more information please email [email protected].
• Advocacy groups in Somerville, Cambridge, Arlington and Medford are hosting an event on Sunday, November 19th from 2:30pm-4:00pm at the Dilboy Field Tennis Court Parking Lot Rt 16, Alewife Brook Parkway. Find more information on their Facebook Event.
• WalkBike Worcester, in partnership with MassBike and City Councilor Etel Haxhiaj, is hosting an event on Sunday, November 19th at 3:00 pm at the First Unitarian Church, 90 Main St, Worcester. Find more information on their Facebook Event.
• WalkBike Springfield & Holyoke Bike Ped Committee will be hosting an event honoring those who have died in Hampden County on Sunday, November 19th at 1pm on the steps of the Central Library (220 State Street, Springfield)
• In Pittsfield, the Berkshire Bike Path Council, the City of Pittsfield, and the Pittsfield Community Design Center are holding a walk and vigil in downtown Pittsfield on Sunday, November 19th. The walk will begin at the Pittsfield Community Design Center (429 North St) at 9:30 am and will head to Pittsfield City Hall for the vigil.
• In Andover, Sidney’s Rainbow Run, presented by Feaster Five will be held on Thursday, November 23rd. This run is in memory of 5 year old Sidney Mae Olson, who was hit and killed in a crosswalk in downtown Andover last May. For World Day of Remembrance, Sidney’s parents are encouraging families to participate in this Kids Run to honor Sidney and to bring more awareness to road safety.
