Policy Proposals

How will you work to establish funding for the infrastructure changes needed to slow traffic on your community’s streets, and improve crosswalks and intersections to make them safer for people who are walking and using mobility assistive devices?

Candejah Pink
I know that I am willing to sit and listen to the concerns of the community and work together to implement possible changes that are in play or come up with what works for the area at hand.

How will you improve the reach, frequency, and quality of public transit in your city/town?

Candejah Pink
I have notice a lot of changes in the public transportation arena. I would rather support what is currently in action and work on outreach with the public. I would like to see more involved.

How will you ensure fast-tracked implementation of a city-/town-wide network of off-street paths and protected bike lanes* on major thoroughfares and connecting streets that are comfortable for people of all ages and abilities?

Candejah Pink
To insure implementation to get involved with the teams that are a part of the decision making.

How will you increase access to biking in every neighborhood equally? What do you see as the major obstacles to encouraging ridership, and how will you address them?

Candejah Pink
We would have to make it out a map to choose what is best to have bikes stations available. We would have to come up with a plan to have a safety device on the bikes to start, have areas with great lighting and have community updates on how things are going in our neighborhood.

How will you increase funding for biking infrastructure?

Candejah Pink
This matter would have to be met with the financial department. I am currently studying the budget for the city and I would question along side the other council members. Yet, I do believe that learning more on the pros and cons will help make great choices.

Yes/No Questions

Do you support the adoption of Vision Zero and funding for its rapid implementation? Vision Zero is an approach which aims to eliminate traffic fatalities and serious injuries by 2030 and has been adopted by several communities, including Boston and Cambridge.

Candejah Pink
Yes
In Springfield in my area, Bay Area, there is a corner that has more then enough fatalities and injuries that maybe avoided if we have more concerns of who else is occupying the streets.

Do you support lowering design speeds through traffic calming measures on downtown and neighborhood streets as a means of enhancing the safety of people walking, using mobility assistive devices, biking, and driving? This may involve the expansion and enhancement of programs like Neighborhood Slow Streets (Boston) and Neighborways (Somerville).

Candejah Pink
Yes
The street I referred to in my previous statement, it has a sharp curve and one stop sign. If one is driving to fast the other may not see in time. If we have design speeds this may give drivers and pedestrians a change to survive the cross.

One key strategy that has been proven to effectively reduce speeding, improve safety, and remove racial bias in traffic enforcement in other states and countries is automated enforcement (i.e. speed cameras and red light cameras). Do you support state legislation that authorizes the use of automated enforcement in Massachusetts, per the July 2017 recommendation of the National Transportation Safety Board?

Candejah Pink
Yes
I support it and know that we in Springfield have law enforcement that work hard to keep drivers from coming to fast.

Do you support redesigning space on the street in order to improve safety for people biking by creating protected bike lanes?

Candejah Pink
Yes
Some areas do not have sidewalks. I hope that it would promote an extension for others to walk safely as well.

Do you support the increased use of curb extensions to improve safety and visibility at intersections, even if it requires the removal of one to two parking spaces?

Candejah Pink
Yes
Safety is always best

Do you support mandating side guards* for all large trucks operated or contracted by government agencies operating in your city/town?

Candejah Pink
Yes
This question was hard. We do not have to many truck in most of our area. I do not want to take away the great energy of people safety. If we need them the yes but if we do not then we must focus on what we can afford to keep our community safe, healthy and functioning.

Do you commit to implementation of improved bike facilities identified in your communityís Bike Network Plan or do you commit to the creation of a Bike Network Plan if none already exists?

Candejah Pink
Yes
It not only helps the environment but also promotes great health.

Will you address age-friendly walking in your community — an issue raised by many seniors as critical to their ability to “age in community”? If yes, how?

Candejah Pink
Yes
Most of the elderly will not be able to walk but we have a service in our community that rides the bike that pulls a carriage. I would do a proposal to see if they are willing to help out as a start. We need to have opportunities for our elderly to get out more fro fresh air.

Do you support the restriction of on-street parking during rush hour on major thoroughfares in order to provide lanes for the exclusive use of buses?

Candejah Pink
No
it is not that I do not support, I just need more information because my town is small.

Do you support exploring new ways of raising revenue to provide your city/town with more tools to improve conditions for people walking, using mobility assistive devices, and biking (e.g. congestion pricing)? If yes, please give examples that interest you.

Candejah Pink
Yes
Improve conditions for walking

Do you support the rollout of dynamic parking meter pricing (i.e. increasing meter rates during periods of increased demand) in business districts to free up on-street parking and reduce cars “cruising” for open spaces?

Candejah Pink
Yes
I need more information. I need to talk to someone who fully understands this question.
