We need safer streets now.
Here are our 8 current priorities for the city.
DEMAND THE LEGISLATURE ALLOW SAFETY CAMERAS
1. Pass Bills S.2344 and H.3754: An Act Relative to Traffic Regulation Using Road Safety Cameras
These bills will allow cities and towns to install safety cameras. When enacted elsewhere, automated enforcement has reduced speeding and serious crashes. This bill includes strong privacy protections, unlike unregulated automated license plate readers.

2. Expand the mandates for safety features like convex mirrors, backup cameras, and side-guards - for municipalities as well as at the state level.
Statewide truck safety mandates improve the safety of everyone on our roads, and help drivers by limiting blind spots and reducing impact when crashes occur. Cities can lead by example with their own fleet.
STATEWIDE RECOMMITMENT TO VISION ZERO
3. Formally recommit Boston to Vision Zero and a safe systems approach to traffic safety
This is needed both at a municipal and state agency level. People don’t know or care who owns the streets in a community, they just need to get where they are going safely.
MAKE OUR STREETS SAFER
4. Unpause safety projects and replace removed flexposts citywide.
5. Restart the “Speed Hump” program.
6. Advance the infrastructure and encouragement projects that Louisa directly worked on.
7. Bring in a 3rd party to support crash investigations and propose a structure for holistic, “safe systems” crash response.
8. Encourage the Boston City Council to keep City Hall accountable, and show up to testify at every hearing
These immediate actions, restoring safety infrastructure, restarting proven programs, investigating crashes through a safe systems approach, and demanding community oversight, represent a city choosing to save lives rather than accepting deadly streets as inevitable.
